The body of seven-year old Jayleena Titus, who went missing after a mishap at the seashore near the Guyana Marriott Hotel at Kingston, Georgetown, has been recovered.
Titus’ body was found by police at the Ruimzigt foreshore, West Coast Demerara on August 28, two days after she went missing.
‘D’ Division Commander Leslie James told Stabroek News that the police were unable to make contact with the dead child’s family until yesterday, when her body was positively identified.
The girl had accompanied her father, Richard Titus, her brother and a cousin on a fishing trip.
A relative said the family was told by the girl’s brother that while her father was fishing on the jetty, she ventured out towards a boat, which reportedly hit her and she went under the water. The family was told that the girl’s brother rushed to her rescue but was unable to pull her up from under the water.
Meanwhile, the body of Edward O’Neal, who went missing early Sunday morning following a boat mishap in the Barima River, in the North West, has also been recovered.
‘F’ Division Comman-der Ravindradat Budhram said O’Neal’s body was found yesterday morning around 1.
O’Neal, 25, reportedly fell out of the boat he was travelling in after it crashed into a piece of wood.
O’Neal and Kamal Hosea, 19, of Aruka River, North West District, who was the captain of the boat, had left Kumaka Landing and were heading up the river in the corner of the river. As Hosea navigated through the waters, the boat crashed into a piece of wood and eventually ran into bushes.
A resident, who heard an alarm sounded by Hosea, responded. Hosea was later taken to the Mabaruma Public Hospital for treatment.
