Rose Hall Town Jammers was crowned the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) coordinated ‘Nigel Hinds Financial Service Champions’, crushing New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors 85-55 in the final Sunday at the Vryman’s Erven Court.
Eventual tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevon Wiggins top scored with a monstrous 37 points for the winner. He was assisted by the duo of Mikel Lewis and David Hope, who netted 20 and 12 points each.
For the loser, Kwesi Mikel, Shamar France and Romain Fogenay scored 13, 12 and eight points respectively.
Trailing 11-14 at the end of the first period, Jammers seized control of the match, outscoring Warriors 25-16 in the second quarter to lead 36-30 at the halftime interval.
Jammers increased their advantage in the pivotal third period, outhustling Warriors once again by a 19-14 score to enter the final period ahead 55-44.
The win was completed in the final period as Jammers recorded an impressive 30 points while restricting Warriors to 11 points.
With the result, Jammers walked away with the championship trophy, medals and a cash incentive, while the losing finalist received the runners-up trophy and a cash prize.
In the third place playoff, Ithaca Hardliners edged Fyrish Black Sharks 50-49 to cop the third place trophy and a cash prize.
