Devastation on St Maarten

The Dutch/French island of St Maarten/St Martin where hundreds of Guyanese live and work has been devastated by Hurricane Irma’s passing as a Category Five event in the Caribbean.

Rashid and Ronchi eliminate Tallawahs

Guyana Amazon Warriors 169-5 (Ronchi 70, Walton 39, Mahmudullah 3-25) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 168-8 (Sangakkara 57*, Simmons 34, Rashid 3-32) by five wickets   (CPL) A hat-trick from Rashid Khan and a rapid fifty from Luke Ronchi propelled the Guyana Amazon Warriors to victory in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Eliminator against Jamaica Tallawahs last night.

Colts in blowout win over Sonics

Colts on Tuesday rode roughshod over Sonics defeating them 71-29 when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) League Championship continued at the Burnham Basketball Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.

Twelve cruise yachts expected for rally

This weekend, at least twelve cruise yachts are expected to begin arriving in the Essequibo River, sailing south from Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago and up Guyana’s coastline from Saint Laurent du Maroni in French Guiana for the 5th International Nereid’s Rally.

Stormy weather

As I write this column, the huge Hurricane Irma is directly hurtling towards our former Leeward Islands’ lovely home of Antigua and Barbuda, threatening to trash the small islands and test its’ big-hearted people like never before.
