A repeat driving-under-the-influence alcohol offender, was yesterday suspended from driving for the next twelve months and also fined $7,500 by Magistrate Christel Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, the police said in a release.
Taxi driver, Solomon Stoby, 58 years, of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica was first charged on February 18, 2017. He pleaded guilty and was fined $7,500 and his licence was endorsed.
On Friday, September 01, 2017, Stoby who owns and operates motor car HC 2999 was stopped at Fifth Avenue, Bartica during a routine stop-and-search operation.
The slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath, caused an officer to administer a breathalyzer test which confirmed their suspicion; he had .122 micrograms of alcohol. The legal limit is .035 micrograms.
