Hibernia defeated a select South Essequibo under – 19 side by four wickets in the opening round of the Golden Fleece Rice Invest South Essequibo 40 overs competition on Saturday last.
Hibernia, after winning the toss, inserted the Under – 19s and restricted them to 179 all – out in 22.2 overs. Their batting effort was led by Shane Wong (33) and Orlando Jailall (70, who added 101 for the first wicket from the first 10 overs.
Hibernia, however, pulled things back with the introduction of Gobin Chandrick, who claimed 5 – 35 and Ganganbehari Ramdhanie (3- 19) to help dismiss the juniors.
Hibernia, in response, reached 180 for six with Yadonauth Persaud posting 56 while Lashey Thomas supported with 23 to see their side to victory. Mahindra Persaud (3-43) and Shirland Anthony (2- 28) were the wicket takers for the Under – 19s. Hibernia received a bonus point for their scoring rate.
The competition will continue this weekend with matches at Hibernia, Pomona, New Opportunity Corps (NOC) and Affiance. The eams set to do battle are Rising Star, Invador Master, Big Man11, GT Warriors, Affiance, Good Hope Warriors, Aurora Night Riders and NOC.
