All roads tonight will lead to the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda, when Western Tigers battles Guyana Police Force (GPF) and GFC tackles Northern Rangers, in the Corona Beer Invitational Football Championship semi-final round.
The opening encounter at 19:00hrs is expected to be a keenly-contested affair when home side GFC attempt to seal a long awaited finalโs berth against the emerging Northern Rangers unit.
The Bourda boys are in rampant form following their 5-2 hammering of Riddim Squad in the quarterfinal round. Offensively, GFC has fashioned 19 goals in six matches.
The main threats have come in the form of Benjamin Opara, Joel Humphrey and Dwayne Robeiro, who will be tasked with unlocking another rearguard.
Defensively, GFC has allowed six goals, with much expected from the emerging backline led by centre-half Raphael and emerging goalkeeper Sesi Norville.
On the opposite side, Northern Rangers secured their semi-final berth following an emotional penalty shoot-out win over fierce rival Camptown.
From the attacking standpoint, the Kitty unit has crafted 12 goals in the campaign thus far, with the foursome of Anthony Sancho, Kwame Holder, Sunil Logan and Stephen Reynolds responsible for most of their conversions.
On the defensive end, the Kitty possess the joint best record with only three concessions. The feature contest at 21:00hrs between Western Tigers and GPF will be a rematch of the group stage.
In the previous meeting, Western Tigers prevailed 2-1. Entering this meeting, the West Ruimveldt hammered Pele 6-0 in the quarterfinal round.
Offensively, the Tigers has recorded 38 goals, which is easily the best record led by a talented roster comprising of Randolph Wagner, Darren Benjamin, Lennox Cort, Jamal Pedro, Shane Morris and Dwayne McLennon.
On the defensive end, Western Tigers possess the joint best record with only three goals allowed, easily justifying their status as the most balanced team in the event.
For the lawmen, 30 goals have been scored by the second best strike-force, which comprises of Quincy Holder, Stephan Ramsay, Dwain Jacobs, Anthio Wallace and Lerone Charles.
In terms of their defensive numbers, seven goals has breached their backline. Winner of the tournament will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while runner-up will receive $200,000 and the respective accolade.
On the other hand, the third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively. The other teams that competed in the tournament were Beacons FC, Flamingo FC, Black Pearl and East Ville FC.
