The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has awarded a contract for the drilling of a new well at Koko, Region 1.
GWI said in a release yesterday that the contract for the Supply of Materials, Labour and Equipment for the Drilling of a Well at Koko, Region 1, was awarded to BK International Inc. in the sum of $8.75 million. It is anticipated that persons from the community will be employed. The well is being funded by the Government of Guyana.
With a timeline for the completion of works set for December 2017, the project is scheduled to begin this month. GWI said that the contractor is in the process of mobilising for works
The project requires the contractor to complete the drilling of the well to meet GWI’s specifications, supply all materials necessary for the completion of the well and implement suitable techniques to ensure the sustenance of the hole before, during and after drilling, the release said. The contracting firm is also required to drill, ream and install all the materials to successfully complete the well as per design. The required depth of the well is 80 meters.
Thereafter, GWI said that the contractor will test the pump and disinfect the well to the satisfaction of GWI’s Water Quality Department.
The well is intended to provide approximately 400 persons with potable water for the first time.
The project will also cater for the construction of a pump house, well head, discharge pipes, connections to the water distribution network and the development of the entire well site.
