TORONTO, Canada,CMC – Veteran Barbadian jockey, Patrick Husbands, continued to inch his way to yet another 100-win season at Woodbine when he logged a brace here Wednesday..
Riding on the eight-race card at the prestigious oval, Husbands scored in race four with favourite Starship Sabrina before returning to capture race six with 3-1 chance Slip Kid.
The latest success moved Husbands to 80 wins in fourth with still three months left in the campaign.
Brazilian Eurico Rosa da Silva continues to lead with 121 wins, 18 clear of exciting Mexican Luis Contreras, with Rafael Hernandez third on 94.
Only once in the last 19 years has Husbands failed to surpass 100 wins — in 2013 when a fall early in the season sidelined him for 3-1/2 months. Even then, he finished with 89 wins.
The 44- year-old, who has been in decent form this year, opened his account with a narrow win over the three-year-old and upwards, in a five-furlong sprint.
The second win for Husbands came in a seven-furlong trip when he carried six-year-old bay gelding Slip Kid to a 2-1/2 length win over the three-year-old and upwards, in a gate-to-wire effort.
