A clash of contrasting styles will highlight the anticipated final between Future Stars and Ol Skool Ballers in the Guinness Cage Football Championship slated for tomorrow at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
Although the composition of the competitors are similar owing to their respective youthful rosters, both teams are at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of the brand of football displayed throughout the event.
Future Stars, the favourite for many pundits before the start of the competition, has produced a defensive masterclass, as they are yet to concede a goal.
This Italian like mindset has produced wins against formidable opponents such as Showstoppers, North Ruimveldt and Leopold Street.
On the other side, Ol Skool Ballers are an attacking juggernaut that seems unlikely to be stopped. 13 goals have been recorded by their talented offensive line, which is one short of the championship leading Leopold Street.
This free scoring approach has produced a highlight reel of wins against Sparta Boss, Broad Street, Albouystown-A, Back Circle and Albouystown-B.
According to an official release from event coordinators Three Peat Promotions, “It therefore sets up the clash for an electrifying conclusion to what has been an exciting introduction of the Cage format which is being played for the first time in Guyana. Aside from the financial rewards anyone who knows these two teams can confirm their thirst to be the best, so you will have to agree that they will leave everything on the floor.”
The release added, “Ol Skool Ballers have shown throughout the championship that big names doesn’t matter and their victory over the previously indomitable Sparta Boss was followed by wins over the two Albouystown units and then crowned it off with a an impressive win over the usually stubborn Back Circle in the semi-finals.”
The correspondence ended “On the other hand, Future Stars has been there before and is now being touted as the ‘new kids on the block’ to replace the fading Sparta Boss. This clash will either validate that claim or at least for now quash that discussion. The ball is in their court and only a win against a tough minded opponent will justify the claims by many. It should be nothing less than an enthralling encounter and you must be there to witness it.”
Meanwhile, the third place playoff will witness a clash of the giants when Back Circle battled Leopold Street. Similarly, four exhibition matches will be played before the start of the third place playoff, with the first fixture scheduled for 20:00hrs
