Essequibo ended day one of the Guyana Cricket Board/ Jaguars three-day league in a strong position after being dismissed for 280 moments before the close in their encounter against East Bank.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kemol Savory was the highlight of the day after stroking 136 from 195 balls to hand his side the advantage. Savory got support from Mark Williams (43) as spinners Darshan Persaud (3-47) and Totaram Bishun (3-73) snared the bulk of the wickets for East Bank.
Over at Tuschen, 20 wickets tumbled on day one as West Demerara in their second innings ended the on 57 – 0, 61 runs ahead of West Berbice.
West Demerara batting first, were bundled out for 110 with skipper Akshaya Persaud posting 42 while Tevin Imlach made 39. Gudesh Motie was the chief destroyer grabbing 6 – 17 to rout his the West Demerarians.
West Berbice, however, were dismissed for 106 with Arthley Bailey (46) and Avishkar Sewkarran (32) getting starts as national youth spinner Keshram Seyhodan took 4 -37 while receiving support from Romario Shephard (3 -29).
Meanwhile, East Coast ended day one on 102 – 4 with former Test opener Rajendra Chandricka posting 45 and Chanderpaul Hemraj 35 to leave their side need 90 more runs to earn a first innings lead.
Earlier, Georgetown after winning the toss were dismissed for 192 with Christopher Barnwell top scoring with 44 from 62 balls as Robin Bacchus (36) and Paul Wintz (34) contributed with supporting knocks.
Bowling for East Coast, Kumar Bishundyal ended 4 – 60 while Rudolph Singh had 2 for 30.
The Berbice clash saw Lower Corentyne ended the day one 166 for 3 with Waheid Edwards unbeaten on 74.
Earlier, Upper Corentyne were bundled out for 130 with Anthony Bramble top scoring with 34 from 26 balls. Left-arm spinners Veerasammy Permaul (6 – 49) and Kassim Khan (4 – 37) combined to rout their Berbice counterparts.
