The Guyana Police Force is mourning the loss of one of its members who died at about 7.30 pm yesterday on the Unity Old Road, East Coast Demerara. Investigations, the police say, revealed that Police Constable 24376 Elroy Newton, 37, stationed at Transport Workshop, Eve Leary and of 70 voorsigtigheid, Mahaica, left the Transport Workshop earlier in the day on Force motorcycle CE 4555, on a test drive. About 19:30 h, whilst proceeding north along the Unity Old Road allegedly at a fast rate and without wearing a safety helmet, the Constable in the process of negotiating a sharp turn, lost control, fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries. He was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was married and the father of one. Investigations are in progress.
