The impressive winning streak of the Panthers’ rugby outfit has come to an end.
Yesterday, the Pepsi Hornets snapped the Panthers’ run of success with a 36-25 win when the Bounty Farm 15’s League continued at the National Park.
The Panthers who had won the GRFU and the Trophy Stall 7s Club Championships and their opening game of the 15s league, could not replicate their winning ways against the blue and red clad ruggers who welcomed back national player, Australia based Kevin McKenzie into their setup.
McKenzie’s impact was immediate as he recorded two tries for the Hornets. Rickford Cummings and national captain, Ryan Gonsalves also scored a try apiece.
Gonsalves also had a solid kick-game, burying three conversions and nailing three penalties.
The efforts of Godfrey Broomes (two tries and three conversions) along with Osei McKenzie, Daniel Anderson and Jamal Angus who breached the Hornets defense, were not enough to keep their streak alive.
The League continues on Saturday at the same venue with the Panthers tackling the Caribs. Kick off time is 16:00hrs.
