A crying mason was yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate after he denied robbing a man of a quantity of jewellery and other items, valued at over $300,000.
Seon Williams stood in the courtroom of Magistrate Judy Latchman, who read the charge to him.
The charge stated that on September 11, in Georgetown, in the company of others and armed with guns, he robbed Virgil Fleming of a quantity of gold jewellery, valued at $250,000, 2 phones, valued at $40,000, an $8,000 wallet, and $4,000 in cash.
Williams, 20, of 192 South Sophia, denied the allegation.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves then objected to bail being granted, while noting that the accused discharged a round during the robbery.
The prosecutor further objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence, the fact that a weapon was used, the prevalence of the offence, and the penalty it attracts.
Williams, through tears, told the court, that he was not around when the robbery took place. He said he was in his bed asleep when the crime occurred.
Nonetheless, Magistrate Latchman remanded him and adjourned the matter until October 2.
