Two women, who were formerly employed as clerks at Central Electronics, were yesterday read several charges, alleging that they embezzled over $800,000 during a period of almost two years.
Devika Rambarran, 20, of 87 Martyrsville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara and Eveon Etwaru-Gurucharan, 22, of Lot 503 Third Field, Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, were read the charges by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The first charge, against the two women, stated that between December 13, 2016 and June 8, 2017 at Georgetown Central Electronics, they embezzled $450,000, taken into their possession for or in the name of or on account of Central Electronics.
Gurucharan was then read two other charges of a similar nature, committed on June where she allegedly embezzled $191,000 and on May 27, where she allegedly embezzled $106,970.
Magistrate Azore then went on to read eight other joint charges to the women.
Five of the charges, which were from the period of February 21, 2017 to May 22, 2017, state that Rambarran and Gurucharan embezzled $9,000 on each of the charges.
The other three charges stated that on June 3, 2017 the duo embezzled $50,000; $25,000 on June 8, 2017, and $10,000 during the month of November 2016.
Both of the accused denied the allegations levelled against them.
The prosecutor made no objection to bail being granted.
Subsequently, Rambarran was granted a total of $115,000 bail, while Gurucharan was granted a total of $230,000 bail.
Eight of the matters will be called again on September 26, while the remaining three will be heard on October 11.
