Commonwealth Games Federation Annual Americas Regional Conference begins tomorrow

The Commonwealth Games Federation Annual Americas Regional Conference begins tomorrow at the Guyana Olympic Association Headquarters at Block XXX, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

Twenty countries were expected to attend the event, but following the two recent hurricanes in the Caribbean, the participation of Anguilla and Dominica is in doubt. Representatives are expected from the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Barbados, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and Guyana.

The two day conference will begin at 9:00 Hrs. with a workshop. Topics to be discussed include governance, the exploration of relationships with other sports bodies, and an overview of the Commonwealth Games Federation through 2022.

The official opening of the conference takes places on Sunday at 9:30 Hrs. with Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo delivering the feature address. Other speakers include Scotlandโ€™s Ms. Louise Martin CBE, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Dr. George Norton, Minister of Social Cohesion with the responsibility for Youth, Culture and Sport, and Ms. Sylvie Fouet, the Permanent UNICEF Representative for Suriname and Guyana.

Presentations will be made at Sundayโ€™s session by Ms. Sasha Sutherland of RADA (Regional Anti-Doping Association), and Ms. Melissa Price and Ms. Crystal Pieris, representatives from the Gold Coast, hosts of next yearโ€™s Commonwealth Games in Australia. The event will conclude with a press conference at 4:00 Hrs.
