New Amsterdam (NA) United head the points table after the first round in the Berbice Zone of the National Milling Company (NAMILCO) Under-17 Football League was completed last weekend. Needing a win to clinch the top spot, NA United defeated the West Berbice unit, Mahaicony Thunderhawks via a walkover, at the Burnham Park ground, last Sunday, after the latter failed to take the playing area.
With the win, NA United finished on 16 points, one ahead of Cougars FC and Hopetown Rangers. Also receiving a walkover victory was Young Strikers, who defeated Monedderlust FC in the second fixture of the doubleheader.
The unexpected trend of walkover victories also occurred on Sunday 10th at the Skeldon Community ground, with Corriverton Links and Young Strikers defeating Monedderlust FC and Paradise Invaders, respectively, who failed to show up for their contests.
