The body of 13-year-old Leonard Archibald, who was raped and then dumped in the Berbice River, was recovered this afternoon.
At minutes after 3 pm, the teen’s body was discovered on a mudflat at Kortberaad Village, Berbice River, which is located some three miles from Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice where Archibald resided.
Archibald went missing last Sunday afternoon after he left home to collect his sisters from a nearby village.
Two men were placed into custody after an investigation was launched and police said one of the accused the men confessed to raping the boy yesterday afternoon. The suspect reportedly said the teen became unconscious during the sexual assault and that they subsequently dumped his body with his bicycle into the Berbice River.
After the confession, both suspects were taken on Friday evening to a location in Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice to point out where the boy’s body was dumped.
At midday today, Archibald’s relatives were hiring a diver to search for the lad’s body.
The bicycle Archibald was last seen riding was discovered yesterday afternoon in the Berbice River at Sisters Village.
Archibald is survived by his parents and nine siblings.
