Defending champions Soft Drink Plant and Sales Department secured lopsided wins when the Banks DIH Limited Inter-Department tapeball cricket competition continued Thursday.
Played at the Thirst Park ground, the defending champs made light work of Berbice Branch winning by 44 runs. Winning the toss and opting to set a total, Soft Drinks Plant reached 107/5 from their allotted 10 overs.
Melroy Gomes was the principal scorer with 50 runs, an innings which included seven sixes and a solitary four from a mere 17 balls. Shiv Parmanand supported with 18 runs (two sixes) with there were 14 extras.
Bowling for the Berbicians, K. Seodat took 2-19 from his two overs while C. Curt ended with 2-20 also from two overs. In pursuit of the total, Berbice finished on a disappointing 63/3.
- Balulall top scored with 16 an innings which included one six and one four while I. Greaves added 13 runs with two mammoth sixes. Extras contributed nine runs to the eventual total. S. Norville was the best bowler for Soft Drinks Plant with 2-4.
Similarly, Sales Department dismantled Water Plant by 46 runs. Taking first strike Sales Department racked up an impressive 119/4 from their allotted overs. R. Joseph top scored with 46 striking five sixes and four fours.
- Shabeer supported with 33 (three sixes and four fours) while extras contributed 22. For the bowlers, A. Carew took 1-18 from his two over spell.
In reply, Water Plant could only muster 73/3, with L. Austin battling to 42 runs and striking five sixes and tow fours in the process while extras added 12 runs. S. Shabeer was the pick of the bowlers with 2-14 from one over while A. Xavier tallied 1-13 from two overs. The tournament resumes on Monday at the same venue.
