`From the beginning I thought the parking meter was a sham. The Mayor and City Council choosing option A, in the recommendations that were made by the committee that was formed, that too was a sham but if they stick to what has to be done, because there are a number of recommendations in option A, they have to do surveys, feasibility study, etc. and if they stick to that, I don’t see parking meters coming back into this country because commonsense will rule in that case and commonsense will show that it’s something that can’t work out in our present economy.’

`This parking meter thing affect a lot of business, it affect my business, because when people driving and they want water, they can’t stop. It kills a lot of business you know. They shouldn’t really worry with it. Every country have parking meter but people have to see that they have a system and we don’t have a proper one. We need to have a better system before they do something like this. Everything they put in place but they don’t enforce anything. If they have people monitor parking that would be better but the meters can’t work.’

`They shouldn’t bring back the parking meter because they should have had it running long now, now they put it down and want to bring it back. Everybody went back to how things were going before, so as they stop, forget about it. It’s like you have a little child and you were sending them to school then you suddenly stop sending them and then their head go blank. As it stop, leave it as it is.’

`If they keep the parking meter they have to renegotiate the pricing because for me I don’t have a problem paying for the parking once I can afford it. Sometimes you just don’t even work for $8,000 a day and you have to pay that to remove a clamp. If they lower the prices then they can bring it back.’

`I think before they do this whole renegotiating thing they should wait until the matter in the High Court finish before they do something with it. They can put a little of the parking meter around and give consideration to persons. Another thing is that people have been complaining about the prices so they can also look into that before bringing this thing back out.’

`I think that they should wait and see what the court order is all about before they make another move. I’m not really in favour of the parking meter but it does help to get the vehicles in line and in order. But right now I don’t think they should do anything until the court action is dealt with and if the court say go ahead then they can renegotiate the price.’

`The council have to get money, because the system one-sided, so I think the parking meter should stay but drop the fee. People complaining about parking meters here but would go elsewhere and pay for the parking. Some people park and go to Berbice and come back. Persons would park four cars and when people come they can’t get a parking around 8 in the morning. The place need order and the parking meter bringing it.’

`I think that they should scrap the whole parking meter thing because the average man can’t afford it. If you really look at how much the average man makes, then the amount they have to pay for a clamp or to just park, it’s like they working just to pay parking meter. If they don’t scrap it they must take another look at the cost, because it’s just too high for the average man.’

`The pros and cons of the parking meter should be made known to the public and then with proper analysis a decision should be made. The disrespect meted out to the Guyanese populace is enormous as it relates to the meters and I believe that an apology and explanation must be made. However, the meter is already set up but I still believe that the contractual agreement should be revisited and advised by legal persons, and even by the man on the road and all persons that will be affected.’
