President David Granger (left) yesterday met with UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres at the United Nations in New York. Guyana was expected to raise its view that the border controversy with Venezuela be referred to the International Court of Justice at the end of this year if no progress has been made between the two sides on settling the matter. This would be in keeping with a pledge that had been made by former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Guterres’s Personal Representative on the matter, Dag Nylander has been shuttling back and forth between Georgetown and Caracas on the matter. He was present at yesterday’s meeting.
