The inaugural Street Vibes Entertainment coordinated National Futsal Cup was officially launched yesterday during a simple ceremony at the Windjammer Hotel, Kitty.
Tournament Coordinator Linden Gill declared that he expects a very competitive tournament which will feature teams not only from the Georgetown environs but also out of the country.
He revealed that a Brazilian team and a unit comprising of African nationals will be competing in the event, which will add to the spectacle.
Meanwhile, Captain of the African contingent David Chimda said, that his team is excited to compete in the tournament, noting that the composition of his roster features players from Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, Ghana and Zimbabwe.
He added that his team is hungry for success and is aiming to walk away with the championship.
The event which commence todays at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue with eight elimination matches, will feature 32 teams battling for over $1,000,000 prizes.
In the opening fixture at 19:00hrs, Kitty Hustlers will oppose Pike Street Sophia while Agricola Champion Boys will engage Meadowbrook Kings (MBK) All-Stars at 19:30hrs.
The third fixture will pit Gold is Money against Albouystown-B at 20:00hrs while Showstoppers will oppose New Marker Street at 20:30hrs and Mocha will tackle Broad Street from 21:00hrs.In the showdown, Leopold Street will battle Melanie from 21:30hrs, Back Circle will lock horns with Alexander Village at 22:00hrs and Sparta Boss match skills with Channel-9 Warriors at 22:30hrs.
The event resumes on Saturday at the same venue with another eight matches. From 19:00hrs, Swag Entertainment will battle Beterverwagting (BV), while Dave and Celina’s will tackle West Back Road at 19:30hrs and Silver Bullets will take aim at North East La Penitence from 20:00hrs.
In the fourth contest, Albouystown-A will battle Bent Street at 20:30hrs, North Ruimveldt will oppose the Brazilian Team from 21:00hrs and Ol Skool Ballers will engage the Dutch Team at 21:30hrs.
The final two fixtures will pit Sophia against Tucville from 22:00hrs and Campbellville against Future Stars at 22:30hrs.
The team winning the tournament will pocket $700,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolades.
