Lloyd Lyte, the former policeman who was charged with the attempted murder of a man who was shot last November, was yesterday committed to stand trial for the crime.
“I’m innocent of the charge,” were the words spoken by Lyte after he was told by Magistrate Judy Latchman that a prima facie case was made out against him for the offence of attempted murder at the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry into the charge.
It is alleged that Lyte, on November 27, 2016, at East Ruimveldt, with the intent to commit murder, discharged a loaded firearm at Martin Atwell.
Magistrate Latchman committed Lyte to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
He had been granted his release on $150,000 bail after being charged and will remain free on bail until his trial starts in the High Court.
