An enforcement officer attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) was taken into police custody yesterday after he allegedly fired off several shots early yesterday morning in public view while drinking at a bar in Sandy Babb Street, Kitty.
Police said the incident that resulted in the arrest of Riaz Ally, 35, a resident of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, occurred around 1.45 am.
His firearm, a 9mm pistol, suspected to be a service weapon, was seized by the police and was lodged.
According to a police statement, Ally was arrested by a policeman on a motorcycle patrol.
At the time, Ally, who was drinking in the company of others, discharged multiple rounds into the air. The rank promptly detained him and took possession of the weapon, which had 13 live rounds remaining in its magazine.
The enforcement officer remained in custody up to last evening.
