The Annual Flower Show is officially off until March 2018. This has been confirmed by the Horticultural Society of Guyana to the disappointment of many flower friends and home gardeners.
All is not lost. This will give many of you extra time to prepare and groom your plants for the show. Now is the time to start selecting your plants and give them extra care so that by February you would know what you are exhibiting.
Orchids
At present, orchids are coming into bloom by the drove. Last week, I cut 10 glorious sprays of Arachnis orchids for customers. Those spikes were long with 15 to 18 flowers on one spike.
Several of my Dendrobiums, Phalaenopsis and Vandas are also in full bloom.
Over the years, I have found the orchid to be one of the simplest plants to grow. Once you get the hang of it, it just takes off and does its own thing.
