A police constable who was found to be under the influence of alcohol has been placed under close arrest after being involved in an accident with a motorcyclist who is now hospitalised.
In addition to being found under the influence, the police said that the relevant documents of the car including certificate of fitness, revenue licence and insurance had all expired. The driver’s licence was in order.
The accident occurred at around 2.30 pm on the Ruimveldt Public Road, Georgetown yesterday afternoon.
The injured woman who was the rider of the motorcycle CS 145 has been identified as Gem Simone Hall 46, of Lot 22 Walker Terrace Street, Castello Housing Scheme while the constable, Nigel Griffith, attached to the Brickdam Impact Base was the driver of motorcar PSS 4303.
Stabroek News was told that Hall suffered head and other injuries following the collision.
The police said that initial Investi-gations have revealed that the car was proceeding north on the western side of the western carriageway on the Ruimveldt Public Road allegedly at a fast rate when it collided with the motorcyclist, who was proceeding west on the southern side of First Street, Alexander Village, thence onto the eastern carriageway and turning north onto the western carriageway of the said Public Road.
As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist who suffered several injuries was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in a stable condition.
