An American senior citizen awaits sentencing today after he pleaded guilty yesterday to being in possession of 1.5 grammes of cocaine.
Alvin Murdock, 65, stood before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who read the charge to him.
Murdock, in both foot and hand shackles, stood near to the Magistrate’s bench because of hearing issues, and was read a charge which stated that on September 30, at Pike Street, Kitty, he had 1.5 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused, who told the court that he was staying in North Ruimveldt, pleaded guilty to the crime.
According to the prosecutor, on the day in question, the police during a raid, went to a yard and saw the defendant sitting on a bench. A search was then conducted on Murdock and the drugs were found in a Crazy Glue tube in his right side pants pocket.
The accused was then told of the crime, arrested and taken to the Kitty Police station.
Murdock, told the court that on the day in question he was visiting a friend and the police searched his pockets and found one rock.
He added that he was arrested and taken to the station but was never given the opportunity to call an attorney. Murdock further stated that he also gave money to the officer after they asked for it, and was also forced to sign documents being under duress.
Magistrate Azore, having set down the matter for a while, remanded the accused, until today when the street value of the drug is to be presented to the court and the sentence handed down.
