Fundraiser fashion show tonight for Miss Guyana World 2017

Guyanese will this evening be treated to a display of fashion and live entertainment at Tower Suites poolside as in honour of Miss World Guyana 2017 Vena Mookram as organisers also attempt to raise some much-needed funds to cover her wardrobe for the Miss World competition being held in China which kicks off October 20.

This evening’s event, which is slated to start at 6 pm, will take the form of a fashion show with a series of designer pieces by Derek Moore of D’adlie, Randy Madray of Randy Madray Designs, Shan Anthony Seecharran of SAS Designs and the duo Hashim Ali and Melicia Pertab -Ali of Nachle Designs. The event will also see a few local entertainers sharing their talents through song and dance.

National Director of Miss World Guyana Natasha Martindale in a release said, “We need to encourage our young people more. They are sensitive and can be easily misled and misunderstood. I feel it is our responsibility as caregivers and care providers to encourage those who seek to do well, provide them with the necessary tools and look out for them. It truly takes a village, especially if we want the village to raise great leaders. I believe we have some of the most amazing young people in

Guyana – young people who are not shooting up their schools with intent to engage in acts of terrorism nor am I aware that we have an out-of-control methamphetamine/crack cocaine problem along with all the 1001 things young people are faced with daily.”

She noted also that Vena is a remarkable young woman who has selflessly given of her time to make a positive impact in her community and country, through pageantry. Vena, she said, is the face of every other young person, a young woman in Guyana who wants to make a difference, who wants to thrive, who wants to do the world of good but is often overlooked and not supported or encouraged.

“Many young people have become timid and are lacking confidence, even if they want to be the best version of themselves, they do not believe they are capable; they quickly lose their dreams and passions. They fail to live up to their true potential,” she said.

This fundraiser is another form of encouragement and adds to a larger support system for young women. The Miss World crown is a symbol for fundraising and so every year the organization tries to engage in various avenues to assist ambassadors on their journey.

She further stated, “It is not a perfect system yet but it provides them with real life experiences and valuable life lessons. The job is never done — next year… I will be doing this again, seeking support and encouragement for another beautiful young woman who will get her hands into various fundraising activities. Let’s work on encouraging on young people, especially our young women, regardless of which avenue they chose as a forum to do good.”

After months of preparation, Vena is ready to compete in beauty with a purpose, sports/fitness, multimedia, talent and top model challenge events including the newly added head-to-head challenge. It will be just days before Guyana joins this year’s national winners from around the world to compete in the most prestigious event in pageantry.

The success of tonight’s event will ensure Guyana is properly represented on the international stage with a well-made wardrobe fit for a queen. The event is also an opportunity for supporters, well-wishers, family, friends in support of Vena’s journey to come together to see her off in fine style. Vena is set to depart Guyana in less than a week to travel to New York to conclude her preparation and journey to the crown. She leaves for China on October 18.

This evening’s  event costs $5,000 and this includes a free cocktail and the chance to meet Miss World Guyana 2017 for a photo opportunity. Dress code for the event is elegantly casual.

Persons are encouraged to be active followers of Vena’s journey via the Miss World Guyana –Facebook page, Twitter, and via Miss World’s newly designed website: www.missworld.com/contestants/Guyana. All are encouraged to download Mobstar and Miss World applications to be able to vote for Guyana.
