West Berbice defeated Georgetown by eight wickets inside two days at the Bush Lot ground in sixth round action of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars three-day Franchise league.
West Berbice resuming on 226 – 8, were dismissed for 231 after claiming a lead of 76 runs behind Shimron Hetmyer’s 131. Off Spinner, Gajanan Suknanan grabbed 5 for 75 bowling for the City Side who folded for 151 in their second innings as Ovid Richardson (24), Martin Pestano-Belle (23) and captain Paul Wintz (23 not out) failing to carry on after getting starts. Bowling for West Berbice, Gudakesh Motie took 5 for 35 while Andrew Dutchin supported with 3 for 55.
West Berbice then rocketed home by eight wickets needing only 77 for victory.
Meanwhile, the contest between East Bank and Upper Corentyne is interestingly poised with Upper Corentyne slightly ahead at stumps on day two. East Bank resuming the day on 129 – 3, were dismissed for 240 with opener Sachin Singh (60) and National under – 19 captain Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (55) recording half-centuries as Shawn Perreira collected 5 wickets for 67 bowling for the Berbice side who then ended the day on 201 without loss as openers Kandasammy Surujnarine (109) and Balchand Baldeo (79) placed their side in a comfortable position heading into the final day, leading by 223 runs.
In the other encounter, West Demerara is well positioned to take first innings honours over Lower Corentyne at Young Warriors.
West Demerara resuming on 284 – 7 was dismissed for 331 with Tevin Imlach failing to add to his overnight 119. Richie Looknaght ended unbeaten on 45. National under – 19 off spinner Karran Arjpaul bagged 4 – 56 while Kassim khan supported with 3-81.
Lower Corentyne in response were 146 for 8 at the close with Alex Algoo unbeaten on 61. Bowling for West Demerara, Mahendra Dhanpaul, Keshram Seyhoden and skipper Akshay Persaud have taken two wickets each.
