Repairs that prevented Cabinet meetings being held at the Ministry of the Presidency have been completed and as such the meetings have moved back to that location.
Ministry of the Presidency’s Communications Director, Mark Archer, told Stabroek News yesterday that as of last week Tuesday, the meetings were convened at its original location.
To facilitate urgent repairs to the Ministry of the Presidency, government last October took the decision to move its Cabinet Meetings to the Guyana Defence Force’s Officers’ Mess, Camp Ayanganna.
The decision was criticised by Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo who said that from his own experience the meetings could be held anywhere.
But the government cited security, privacy and other matters for deciding on Camp Ayanganna. It had explained that a thorough and extensive search was conducted for a suitable site to temporarily host Cabinet meetings but none was found. It noted that the main requirements for a temporary alternative venue related to privacy and confidentiality, security, document preparation and reproduction, size, cost, accessibility, parking and minimal disruption to traffic and regular business.
