A Hadfield Street resident was yesterday granted bail after denying charges that he robbed guards at the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission office.
It is alleged that Kevin Niles, 26, of 61 Hadfield Street, robbed Julanda David of a $60,000 phone on September 28.
A second charge read to the accused stated that on the very date and at the very location,
Niles robbed Tishana Henry of a $10,000 BLU phone and $5,000 in cash.
Niles pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
Bail was later objected to by Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore, who told the court that the accused allegedly robbed the two uniformed special constabulary officers who were performing duties at the Lands and Survey department. He added that the accused was also positively identified by the complainants.
Attorney Tiffany Jeffrey, who appeared for Niles, requested that he be granted reasonable bail, while noting that although he was charged previously with a similar offence, the matter was dismissed.
Her request was subsequently granted by the Chief Magistrate and the accused was released on $10,000 bail on each charge. The matter is expected to be heard by Magistrate Dylon Bess on October 19.
