A 44-year-old cattle farmer, his 19-year-old labourer and a 16-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons were yesterday remanded over the murder of the Bloomfield block maker, whose suspected remains were discovered in two shallow graves in the Number 55 Village, Corentyne on Friday last.
Bharrat Ramsaywack, also known as `Bobby’, Mohanlall Suesankar, also known as `Razor Blade’ and the sixteen-year-old all appeared yesterday at the Springlands Magistrate Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.
The charge read that the trio between October 2 and October 6 in Number 55 Village, Corentyne murdered Mahendra Ghanie, also known as `Sanjay’, 21.
The unrepresented men were not required to plead to the charge. Ramsaywack and Suesankar were remanded to prison, while the 16-year-old was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre located in Sophia.
The trio will return to court on October 18.
Ghanie, a young block maker was last heard from by relatives last Monday evening, when he told them he had arrived at his boss Ramsaywack’s house in Number 55 Village, Corentyne.
However, after calls on Tuesday last to Ghanie’s cellular phone went unanswered his family became worried. It was on Wednesday morning that the man’s relatives became suspicious and headed to Number 55 Village to search. During the search, residents told Ghanie’s relatives the youth’s boss was seen lighting a “big
fire” in the cemetery behind his house.
After residents related the information about the fire to the police, Ghanie’s boss and one of his workers were arrested on Thursday. After his arrest, residents said they noticed another fire being lit.
