An injunction was yesterday filed against the newly installed executives of the Berbice Cricket Board seeking to prevent the officers of the board from executing its functions after what was deemed an illegitimate elections on Sunday.
The injunction was filed by Attorney-at-Law Arudranauth Gossai on behalf of stakeholders in the region. It seeks to restrain the current executives from carrying out any functions until the matter surrounding the fairness of Sunday’s elections is resolved.
“It [cricket in Berbice] is going to remain at a standstill as it has been from the beginning of the year,” a former BCB member said when asked about the implications of the injunction.
“While the cricket will be at a standstill, the injunction will bring democracy to Berbice cricket.
“what Berbice needs is a democratic body, it doesn’t matter who wins or who loses but that’s what we want,” the former official said adding that he hoped that the matter will be resolved swiftly.
Meanwhile, in another twist, Winston Roberts who was elected a vice president of the current BCB said that he had declined the position citing concerns over the transparency of the elections.
