Upper Corentyne defeated Georgetown while East Coast is on the brink of earning first innings honours over East Cast after day two of the final round of the Guyana Cricket Board, Jaguars three – day Franchise league, yesterday.
Georgetown, resuming their second innings on 116 – 6 and in danger of losing by an innings, mustered a lower order fight back to post 277 in 69.3. Skipper Paul Wintz scored 92 as wicketkeeper-batsman Dexter Solomon recorded 77.
Clinton Pestano (5-48) was the most successful bowler for Upper Corentyne while Eon Hooper grabbed 4 for 22 to back up his first innings five-wicket haul.
Upper Corentyne then completed their five-wicket victory by reaching 116 – 5 with Pestano returning to score 57 and Rajiv Ivan 23 to ensure their side got over the line.
Over at Everest, Camp Road, East Coast, resuming on 184 for 3 with Ameer Khan and Kamesh Yadram ending unbeaten with 69 and 57, respectively were dismissed for 298 with Khan reaching his century (104) while Yadram fell for 99.
Bowling for East Bank, Sage Hathiramen and Darshan Persaud picked up 3 – 44 and 3 -73 respectively. East Bank in their first innings, were tottering at 184 for 9 at the close, trailing by 114 runs with Ronaldo Ali Mohamed stroking a beaten 116 to record his first century of the league.
Bhaskar Yadram has so far picked up three wickets while Ameer Khan and Sahadeo Ramkhelawan have two wickets apiece.
The encounter between Lower Corentyne and West Berbice finally got on the way after the first-day washout with West Berbice ending the day on 69 – 1 after Lower Corentyne declared their innings closed on 74 – 8 as left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie continued his dominance by picking up 5 – 8.
