This weekend the Bahá’ís across Guyana and around the world will celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Bahá’u’lláh.
According to a press release from the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís, millions of people worldwide who have been inspired by the life and teachings of Bahá’u’lláh will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth on the 21st and 22nd of October 2017.
Bahá’u’lláh, the release explained was born in Tehran in 1817. Two centuries later, the day of his birth is celebrated around the world alongside the birth of the forerunner of his revelation, the Báb, born in 1819.
These twin holy birthdays are celebrated by Bahá’ís and their friends as one annual festival where the closely interwoven lives and missions of the two are remembered together.
Australia, Singapore, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are among the countries where the Bahá’ís have received statements of encouragement and appreciation from leaders in their countries honouring the bicentenary of the birth of Baha’u’llah.
The release said that throughout Guyana, Bahá’ís are celebrating with gatherings in their homes, at local Bahá’í Centres and other venues during the month of October. Additionally, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Guyana will be hosting a reception at which it hopes to be joined by senior members of the Government, Members of Parliament and other prominent members of the community
