A father of 12 was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with possession of cannabis for trafficking.
It is alleged that Sheldon Solomon, of Port Kaituma, who is the owner of a variety store, had 90 grammes of cannabis for trafficking in his possession on October 22nd at Port Kaituma waterfront.
When the charge was read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Solomon pleaded not guilty.
The police’s case, as presented by prosecutor Arvin Moore, is that acting on information received, the police visited Solomon’s shop and informed him that they suspected he was selling cannabis.
The police, according to the prosecutor, entered the premises and as a result Solomon ran to the back of the yard. While officers were in pursuit, they allegedly saw him drop a bag into a tyre in the back yard. Solomon was apprehended by the police, who later conducted a search and found a bag containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan later remanded Solomon and adjourned the matter until November 8th, when it will be called at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court. \\
