(Trinidad Express) While Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was addressing the media yesterday afternoon regarding his trip to Belize and flood-related matters, the country was recording its 400th murder.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old father Shamanand Gosine. He was shot dead on his agricultural estate within sight of the Ste Madeleine Police Station.
Police were told that Gosine lived at St Mary’s Village, Moruga. Together with several workers, he planted the land located off the Manahambre Road near the Usine/Ste Madeleine Sugar Factory.
He was involved in a longstanding property dispute that ended up in court after a freight container was bulldozed and tool shed demolished earlier this year.
Police were told that at around 1.50p.m. Gosine asked his workers to get lunch and they left the property.
When the men returned at 2.10p.m. they found Gosine dead at the back of the freight container. He had been shot several times. His pick up truck was on the property and nothing was taken.
No one witnessed the killing.
