Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul grabbed another first-class six-wicket haul to hand the Guyana Jaguars first innings honours over the Jamaica Scorpions in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional four – day league played at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.
Jaguars, batting a second time, ended day two on 106 – 4, for an overall lead of 273 runs with two days to go.
Resuming the day on 258 for eight, the Jaguars were dismissed for 266 as seamer Derval Green wrapped up the innings by claiming the last two wickets to end with 4 – 63 while Damani Sewell (3-69) and Dennis Bulli (2-45) played supporting roles.
Romario Shepherd ended unbeaten on 22 in a solid lower-order effort after Chandrapaul Hemraj (60) and Anthony Bramble (62) scored half centuries on the first day.
Scorpions in their first innings had virtually no answer for Permaul who bagged 6 – 29 as the visitors folded for 99 in 50.5 overs.
Scorpions had a torrid start when Shepherd trapped debutant Garth Garvey LBW for a golden duck, four deliveries into the first over.
All-rounder Keemo Paul then accounted for the dismissals of Guyanese Trevon Griffith (5) and Jamaican Brandon King (10) to leave
scorpions in a spot of bother with the score on 19 – 3 in the 10th over.
Assad Fudadin, however, attempted to repel his rampant former teammates with a stubborn innings of 33 which spanned 99 deliveries before being dismissed by Permaul who then ran through the middle order while Paul (2-20) reaped good reward for his earlier efforts.
Jaguars then reached 106 – 4 at the close after openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul (33) and Rajendra Chandrika (35) failed to convert solid starts.
Skipper Leon Johnson is unbeaten on 11 and with him is Bashkar Yadram who is yet to score. Dennis Bulli (2-33) claimed two of the four wickets to fall.
