Thanks to Trans Guyana Airways and the Guyana Community of Service, standout athlete from Region One, Ricky Williams will get his first shot to represent Guyana in an international fixture.
The two entities blanketed the cost of Williams’ airfare and accommodation to pave the way for the budding distance running star to compete in the first leg of the South American 10k set for this afternoon in Suriname.
Williams, 17, is enjoying a series of fortunate events as his sponsorship package comes on the heels of him recently being awarded a scholarship at the Chase’s Academy.
The teen was also the youngest athlete in the top five of the Court’s 10k race staged two weeks ago. Williams placed fourth behind seasoned veterans, Cleveland Forde, Winston Missigher and Cleveland Thomas.
The trio will also represent Guyana today in Suriname along with Leanna Charles.
Williams’ coach and father figure, Leslie Black, thanked the two companies for their support of the indigenous fifth form student-athlete.
