It was a night of upsets as Flamingo and Camptown defeated Santos and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) respectively when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer Premier League resumed on Friday.
Flamingo secured their first win of the event compliments of a 1-0 victory at the GFC ground, Bourda.
Kelon Jones stunned the small crowd that descended on the venue in the 42nd minute racing away from the backline, before lobbing his effort over the advancing goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Camptown maintained their unbeaten record, edging GFC by an identical score line to climb atop the standings. An error by custodians Sesi Norville led the fixture’s only goal in the 27th minute. A poor punched clearance inside the centre of the box by the goalkeeper, fell into the unchallenged path of Ozeal Small, who directed his header into the empty net.
The home side’s effort to fashion an equaliser was then hindered in the 44th minute as Jean-Paul Bones was issued with a red card, after picking up his second yellow card.
The event resumes today with a tripleheader. At 15:00hrs, the Guyana Police Force will oppose Black Pearl while Beacons tackle Northern Rangers from 17:00hrs. In the final fixture, Pele battles Riddim Squad at 19:00hrs.
