Racing fans get ready, ‘the weekend of speed’ of the fourth and final leg of the highly anticipated International Race of Champions will be staged at the South Dakota Circuit on November 11 and 12.
The official date and other details were announced Friday evening during the official launch of the annual mega event at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) Thomas lands facility.
During the launch, it was disclosed that for the first time, the closest machines to Formula One cars, the Radical Sportscars will be in Guyana setting the track ablaze.
At the launch, which was attended by Minister of Presidency, Joseph Harmon, Minister of Infrastructure, David Patterson, Director General of Tourism, Donald Sinclair and the top brass of the GMR&SC, it was also disclosed that racing will be held on both Saturday and Sunday with scrutineering on Thursday and Friday. Said Vice President of the Club, Hansraj Singh: “The GMR&SC is embarking on the first-ever weekend of speed at South Dakota. For the first time, two days of racing will be held. The Suzuki radicals will have a special day for them to race.” Singh added that speed demons, Kristian Jeffrey, Mark Vieira and Calvin Ming will be Guyana’s racers pushing the Radical machines.
He suggested that the “Final leg promises to be a flurry” since Team Guyana’s racers will be coming up against daredevils from the USA, Canada and the rest of the Caribbean. Singh also disclosed that there will also be the return of the Mohamed’s Enterprise’s professional bikers.
Sinclair, Patterson and Harmon echoed each other’s sentiments by stating that the government will continue to lend their support to the event. Harmon and Patterson stated that they will be in attendance on November 12 while pleading with fans not to try to emulate the feats of the racers on the open roads at the conclusion of the event.
“We need discipline on the roads once the event is over,” said Harmon.
In closing remarks, President of the GMR&SC, Rameez Mohamed, thanked the stakeholders for their continued support and encouraged fans to flock to the venue to support the riders and drivers. Tickets cost $2000 for adults and $1000 for children on November 12 and half that amount on November 11. Racing gets underway from 14:00hrs on day one and 10:00hrs on day two.
