At approximately 4.02 pm yesterday, the Guyana Power and Light said that defective line hardware on a feeder out of its Kingston 2 Plant resulted in a fault that tripped the feeder.
In attempting to re-power the affected area, the severity of the fault resulted in a shutdown of the Kingston 2 Plant and subsequent shutdown of the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System.
Restoration efforts commenced immediately with power being restored incrementally commencing at 4.14 pm. The last area was re-powered at 4:55 pm.
GPL said it regretted the inconvenience caused. The shutdown was the latest in a series that has hit GPL in recent months.
