I have noted the letter in the Stabroek News of October 28, 2017 by
Registrar of the Supreme Court Sueanna Lovell. In it she explained why it was taking so long to deliver the judgment to the farmers from Seafield.
She explained that the Honourable Justice Cummings-Edwards was ready to deliver the judgment. However, the Attorney General (AG) requested additional time.
My criticism of that is that when people’s livelihoods are at stake the honourable judge should not tolerate these regular extensions of time. She should have been firm and not allow the AG to delay the dispensing of justice.
After all, those farmers have children and commitments and cannot put their lives on hold.
The sloth in the giving of decisions over the years has been creating havoc for ordinary workers and farmers. It is a big problem for business people as well.
I urge the judiciary to be much more timely in this regard. People should not be made to suffer.
