The University of Guyana (UG) continues their impressive run in the New Building Society (NBS) Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) 40 – overs second division competition by notching up two wins over the weekend.
UG on Saturday, thumped Police by a mammoth 146 runs on the back of a fine century from Omesh Dhanram who slammed 133 after UG were sent in and piled on 350 before being dismissed in the 40th over.
Dhanram was supported by the consistent Keron Sewnarine (59) and Suresh Dhanai (56) as the students piled it on.
Bowling for the lawmen, off-spinner Jason Heyliger took 3-50 while leg-spinner Vishal Jaigobin had 3-61.
Police in response got off to a blazing start as National Youth Player Alex Algoo (30) was severe on anything within hitting range, his innings lasted 10 balls and consisted of five (5) maximums.
His dismal however set the host back and they were eventually dismissed in 28.1 overs for 204. Andrew Lyght Jr., stroked 59 and Mark Gonsalves 43.
Off-spinner Dennis Heywood took 4-33 and he was ably supported by seamer Ray Newton 2-32.
UG on Sunday continued their dominant showing by recording a comprehensive 110 runs victory over minnows Diplomats Cricket Club.
The students cantered to 231 for seven in the 25 overs reduced game as Dwayne Dodson missed out on a well-deserved century after being dismissed for 91.
He found support from Linden Austin (67) and Melroy Stephenson (24). Diplomats struggled in their chase and were bundled out for 121 in 24.5 overs as Dennis Heywood took (3-17) and Dodson (3-15) combined to route their counterparts.
UG has so far won all four of their matches and are well on their way to securing a berth in the semifinals. Action in the competition continues this week at various grounds around Georgetown.
