Number Eight, Bush lot, Goed Fortuin and Patentia Secondary Schools yesterday recorded wins in the 2017/2018 Guyana Cricket Board/Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited/ National Sports Commission/National Secondary Schools Cricket League (GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL), played in West Berbice and on the West Bank of Demerara.
Number Eight Secondary had the better of Fort Wellington Secondary by nine wickets at the Bush Lot ground in West Berbice. Fort Wellington, winning the toss and electing to bat were bundled out for 112 in 28.3 overs. Daniel Moses produced a destructive spell of bowling to finish with figures of 4 for 19 from six overs while Budhram Lakram supported with 2 for 6. Number Eight in reply had little worries and galloped to 114 – 1 in 15 overs as Wazim Inshan (53) and Noel Deodat (50*) made light work of the target.
In the other match played at the Bush Lot ground, Bush Lot Secondary trounced Ash Secondary by 223 runs. Bush Lot Secondary, batting first, stormed to 267 for 7 from their allotted 30 overs with Adrian Samaroo recording the first century of the tournament (109) which included 19 fours and a maximum. National under – 15 skipper Marvan Prashad and Lamesh Persaud contributed 37 and 31 respectively.
Bowling for Ash Secondary, Saeed Baksh took 3 for 31.
Ash Secondary was then bundled out for 44 in 11.3 overs as Samaroo returned to capture 2 for 3 while receiving support from Lamesh Persaud (2 – 12).
Over at the Bellevue ground, Goed Fortuin snatched a 44-run victory over La Grange Secondary in a low-scoring affair. Goed Fortuin, after winning the toss and deciding to bat, was dismissed for a meagre 70 with Viraj Harris (25) top-scoring. Asif Sameer (2 – 7) and Mark Adams (2- 4) had decent figures for La Grange who were then dismissed for 26 with Nick Adams grabbing 6 for 7 to complete his side’s victory.
Meanwhile, the final match at the Bellevue ground saw Patentia Secondary hammering L’Aventure by 109 runs.
Patentia compiled 137 from 20 overs before being dismissed with Satesh Basdeo (42) and Emmanuel Benn (26) being the main scorers. Bowling for L’Aventure, Vishal John took 3-35, Prince McFarlane 2-24 and Edward Cox 2-2.
L’Aventure in reply could only muster 28 as Wazim Rahaman grabbed 5 for 13 and Chetram Rajroop 2 for 4 to hand Patentia Secondary the win.
Matches continue today with Freeburg Secondary battling Central High School at MYO ground, St. Joseph’s High opposing Queenstown Community High at GYO, while North Georgetown will come up against Tutorial High at the GNIC ground. All matches start at 11:00 hours.
