Camptown and Mahaica Determinators sealed their berths to the quarterfinal round, securing lopsided wins over Buxton Stars and Winners Connection respectively, when the ‘Turbo Energy Drink Knockout Football Championship’ continued on Wednesday.
The Campbellville based unit, led by an impressive display from Ozeal Small sealed a 2-0 win over their East Coast of Demerara foe, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.Small was brilliant on the night in front of a small crowd, recording a double in the 13th and 84th minute.
The versatile attacker made his intention known from the onset, uncorking a thunderous right foot strike from 28 yards out from the centre of the field, which sailed into the top left corner.
The target practice continued for Small in the 53rd minute, as he launched another ‘long range missile’ from 25 yards out from the middle of the field, which crashed onto the left upright of the Buxton goal. The Buxton Stars goal was under siege once more in the 67th minute, as Small rifled yet another shot with his favoured right foot, 23 yards from the target, which forced a full stretch dive from the Buxton custodian.
Nevertheless, Small was eventually rewarded with his second goal, six minutes before the end of regulation time, a strike which rivaled the first for its sheer quality.Racing onto a poor clearance from the backline inside the right of the penalty area, Small thumped a right foot volley into the top left hand corner of the net. Meanwhile, Mahaica Determinators became the final qualifier for the quarterfinal round, crushing Winners Connection of Linden by a 3-0 scoreline.
Eion Abel, Ozese Halley and Curtly Adams were on target in the 23rd, 44th and 53rd minute, respectively.
