Four teenage cyclists will represent Guyana at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships slated for this weekend in Barbados after raising enough funds to cover their own airfare.
Briton John, Curtis Dey and Nigel Duguid will compete in the Junior Division, with riders aged 17-18 years, while Jonathan Ramsuchit will compete in the Cadets division with cyclists in the 14-16 age category.
The cyclists along with Coach Horace Burrowes, who is the President of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) and Steve Ramsuchit (Manager) are scheduled to arrive in Barbados today. On the streets of the Land of the Flying Fish, the juniors will contest the 100 km road race, while Ramsuchit will compete in the 70 km event.
According to Assistant Racing Secretary of the Guyana Cycling Federation, Joseph Britton, John will spearhead the team after recently returning from the Junior World Championships in Norway.
It is prudent to note that the loved ones of the young local wheelsmen are the ones footing the airfare bill. According to a source, the GCF were unable to raise any funds whatsoever to help the riders offset expenses. The hosts, Barbados will provide meals and accommodation.
