The fourth annual Mohamed Enterprise/New Era Entertainment Futsal tournament was officially launched yesterday, at the Mohammed Enterprise Building, Lombard Street.
The event, which runs from November 24th-December 26th, will be staged at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) hard-court, Linden
Some 25 teams from across various zones will battle for over $600,000 in cash and prizes with the eventual winner pocketing $500,000 and the championship trophy.
Nazar Mohamed, proprietor of Mohamed’s Enterprise, affirmed that his company was committed to the development of sport, especially in the region of Linden which, he said, is a very special place to him.
He revealed that his involvement in football dates back to more than 25 years with the Kashif and Shanghai event, adding that more sponsors should come on board and support the tourney to ensure its longevity.
Cell Smart, another sponsor of the tournament via representative Linden Gomes, said they are happy to be on board, because of the growing popularity of the event in the Mining Town.
Wayne Forde, President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) said, that despite the lack of an indoor facility dedicated to the discipline, Futsal has flourished. He added that the GFF will continue to support the growth and development of the sport.
Kenrick Noel, Acting President of the Guyana Futsal Association (GFA) said this year has witnessed the most Futsal tournaments being staged, adding that it was fitting for the New Era Entertainment event to bring the curtains down on a positive year for the discipline.
The second and third place finishers will pocket $150,000 and $50,000 respectively. Cell Smart is also another sponsor of the tournament.
