The Ministry of Public Health will have a new head office built at a cost of $365m.
This was one of the contracts taken note of by Cabinet at its recent meetings, according to a statement on Friday from the Ministry of the Presidency.
The contract has been awarded to Chung’s Global Enterprise and the project has been described as the Ministry of Public Health Head Office building Phase 1.
In 2009, the then Ministry of Health head office on Brickdam had been hit by fire in what was described as arson. Some of its divisions had to be accommodated in various parts of the city.
Work on the new head office is expected to begin shortly. In a notice in yesterday’s Stabroek News, the Ministry issued a notice stating that the playfield adjacent to the building site at Lot 1 Brickdam, Stabroek will be closed to the public. A portion of the playfield is to be used as a site office and to stockpile material. The other portion of the field will be used to accommodate the relocation of some of the ministry’s operations which will be disrupted by the impending construction.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Business will see an extension of its head office valued at $88.7m. The contract for this project has been awarded to Vishal Contracting Company.
