Back in operation: Employees of the city’s Solid Waste Department removing refuse on Robb Street yesterday. During the last week, residents of Georgetown have been complaining about the failure of the Mayor and City Council and its contractors to collect garbage in several city wards. Solid Waste Director Walter Narine told Sunday Stabroek that the disruption in service was as a result of mechanical difficulties encountered by the collection vehicles. These difficulties have since been rectified. As a result, all wards should have been cleared of refuse yesterday. Narine expressed his apologies to all residents affected. (Keno George photo).
