Guyana’s Shemar Britton whipped reigning Caribbean men’s singles champion Samuel Galvez 3-1 Friday when the WASA Invitational Table Tennis Tournament commenced at the WASA club, Farm Road, St Joseph, but his team
Gladiators was beaten 2-4 by Invaders in the opening encounter.
Britton won 13-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6 against Galvez of the Dominican republic but his teammate and fellow Guyanese Joel Alleyne went under to former Caribbean men’s singles champion Trevor Farley of Barbados.
Another Guyanese Natalie Cummings, playing for Invaders, won her singles match against Gladiators’ Linda Budhan.
Derron Douglas, who beat Kamal Hunt and Arun Roopnarine, who won against Aaron Edwards, were the other winners for Invaders.
Aleena Edwards was the other winner for Gladiators. She defeated Catherine Spicer.
The WASA competition ends November 9.
